Imagine Homeopathy

- Each chapter explores a concept through the lens of an experiment, metaphor, or image
- The patient is at the center of the learning process, as in everyday practice
The art and science of truly successful homeopathic medicine. With the recent resurgence in the practice of homeopathy - whetherpracticed alone or as a complement to other types of medicine - comes an unprecedented demand for well-educated, highly trained practitioners. What type of education will lead to true success?
Can the art of homeopathy be taught alongside scientific concepts? Generations of homeopaths have mastered such concepts as homeoprophylaxis, genus epidemicus, and constitution, but only the truly successful practitioners have achieved a level of understanding far beyond simply dealing with patients.
In this unique book, homeopath Chris Kurz offers a highly effective - and fun - approach to learning and retaining all of the important concepts of homeopathy. Using vivid analogies and informal language, Kurz emphasizes the importance of true insight rather than rote memorization. Infusing a student's personal experience with creativity and imagination creates the most fertile ground for discovering and developing true insight and knowledge of homeopathy. Each chapter explores a concept through the lens of an experiment, metaphor, or image. For example, an intense examination of a common lemon brings home the notions of totality and the law of similars; a road map unlocks the mysteries of miasms, and a game of golf illustrates important issues of case management. The result of years working with students, Kurz's inspirational and thought-provoking approach places the patient at the center of the learning process, as in everyday practice. Imagine Homeopathy is invaluable as a guide for teachers, an introduction for novices and laypeople, and a provocative refresher for seasoned practitioners.

Recensie | This book review is reprinted with permission from Volume 19, Summer 2006 Edition of Homeopathic Links. Reviewed by Dr. Atena Ioana Antonescu, Romanian Vice President of the Liga Medicorum Homeopathica Internationalis (LMHI) "... written for people who want to take the time to understand things at a deeper level", says Julian Winston in his foreword to the book. How so? Chris Kurz offers us a unique experience - a book on homeopathy that uses such a combination of teaching techniques as to make it a complete learning experience. We find ourselves at the same time rationally understanding and intuitively grasping homeopathic philosophy, concepts, and laws. This is a book involving more than our dry mental power - Chris has found a way to harness the powers of our whole creativity, intuition and mental capacity in exploring the known and lesser known facts of homeopathy. The seventeen chapters take us on a journey through the landscape of homeopathy, starting with the basics, the law of similars, advancing through totality, the concepts of health and disease, covering case-taking strategies, prescription and case-management. Materia medica and repertory, miasms, constitution, all the way to topics like vaccination and homeoprophylaxis, it leaves little unexplored. And it does so in a novel way that makes it hard to put down. Images and metaphors stimulate imagination and work hand-in-hand with science, opening new pathways that take us to discover what homeopathy is and where we can go with it. As traveling companions and teaching guides, a lemon and a dolphin aptly bring us the understanding of the law of similars and totality. A frozen lake is used to picture the meaning of the homeopathic constitution, and a sunflower sheds light on contradicting symptoms in materia medica. Using images and metaphors, the author has found a very engrossing and at the same time efficient way to clear often misunderstood and misused terms and concepts, such as "totality", "constitution", "miasms". Case examples are well chosen to benefit both beginners and seasoned homeopaths. A book of solid classical homeopathic knowledge, it looks into the core and is creative in a true sense, respecting its integrity, and not inventing a "new" homeopathy. In the author we have a person that states clearly "I understand what I practice, and I practice what I understand", and he generously shares his learning experiences, encouraging us to dare to question and search for truth and depth of understanding. Personally, I experienced "Imagine Homeopathy" as a really interactive book. It stimulated me to think, imagine, play, gave birth to new thoughts and questions and a whole new level of understanding. This is a book that you will read and (live through) with pleasure, and at the end you will find yourself in possession of the kind of quantity and quality of knowledge that usually asks for hours of head splitting study and years of trial and error experience. Thank you, Chris! "Imagine homeopathy" is useful for dedicated teachers, a good way to start looking into homeopathy for beginners, and a stimulating companion for experienced homeopaths in their lifelong homeopathic journey. If this were a homeopathic version of Blue Peter, one might be asked to imagine that an egg box contained six miasms and the eggs would each be coloured and cooked in a different fashion. The sycotic egg would have two yolks, and the syphilitic egg would be burnt to black ashes. The tubercular egg would smell of smoke with some circular patches on the shell....I have begun this review rather flippantly to catch your attention, but do not underestimate the book, it is an innovative and successful attempt to change the way the concepts of homeopathy may be effectively taught and learned. There are 17 chapters with such titles as 'The Lemon and the Dolphin', 'Cutting the Wire' and 'Invisible Ink'. The concepts of homeopathy are explained using puzzles and heuristic devices from engineering, from initiative or intelligence tests and brainteasers. I cannot think of an important topic that has been omitted. From Chaos and the Vital Force to Vaccinosis, they are all there. The book is entirely classical in its approach, for example, 'If you want to offend a homeopath accuse him or her of using polypharmacy...' and the reasoning behind this is fully explained using the metaphor of an iceberg. Why is a repertory like a hammer? The answer is in this book. The introduction is by Julian Winston who believed that this book really gets to the issues which are underneath homeopathy. Chris has spent many years in California immersed in homeopathy and is a regular on the Lyghtforce internet list; he is now back in his native Austria, in private practice in Eisenstadt. His English style is perfect and the production by the publisher, including the illustrations is of superb quality.
